Fiona and Shirley

Daily Mail Foursomes competition

Shirley Naden-Lamb and Fiona Liggett are through to Round 5 in the Daily Mail Foursomes competition, having qualified to represent the Club last October.

After battling 10 holes in the rain last Monday evening, Shirley and Fiona beat the Lady Captain and her partner at Astbury Golf Club to finish 2 up on the 18th.  It was a close match as they had to give 8 shots, going 3 up then back to all square on 16th.  The match was particularly challenging because of the weather and it had been a while since they had both played the delightful course.

They won their first match against Bramhall Park at Home 2& 1, then Away to Cheadle GC where they beat the Lady Captain in glorious sunshine 3&2 after giving them 10 shots.  They were disappointed when they drew another home draw for the next round as they both fancied a round at Davenport but cleaned up 7&6 after a day’s work at the office after giving 7 shots.

They have a few more rounds to go and hope to be able to make the cut to play in the final rounds which will be held at Slaley Hall in Northumberland.

Their next match is on 10th July against Reddish Vale at Tytherington, so look out for them and cheer them on!

Junior Section
Last week we had our 3rd junior competition of the season with 23 playing, ages ranging from 6 to 15 years.

It was great to see them all out on the course having fun – despite the rain! We played a 5 hole Texas scramble which worked really well.

A big focus of mine this year is the juniors and growing a junior section with regular competitions. If you have a son/grandson or daughter/granddaughter who wants to start playing, then we have loads of opportunities for them to give it a go.

I run group coaching sessions on a Saturday and Sunday and over the summer holidays I will be doing camps. We are also always looking for volunteers to help out with the competitions so if you’d like to put yourself forward then either let myself know or our junior organiser, Marg Jordan.
