My route to wellness by Sunita
Healthy habits and happy families
I’m now in a good routine with my fitness plan and seeing results physically, emotionally and mentally. The equipment in the gym is great, and all the staff are so lovely and helpful and keep me motivated.
Sunita's story
A busy professional and mother of two, 43-year-old Sunita is a Speech and Language Therapist working with children and young people. With a practice in both Cheshire and London, she’s also the national advisor in Bilingualism under the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy and has self-published 21 books for children on Hinduism.
She’s also a huge foodie and food blogger, and absolutely loves cooking. She has a group on Facebook with 82k followers internationally, and this year won an award for "International Woman of Excellence".
With two boys aged 9 and 5, she initially joined the club when she was 20 for 3 years, later rejoining in 2019 with her family.
A membership for Sunita was a chance to get fit, have fun and build healthy habits into her family’s lifestyle. “I wanted the boys to have fun doing healthy activities and for them to learn new skills. For myself, I wanted to improve my fitness, lose weight and bring positive vibes into my life! It was also about taking time out for myself.”
She goes to the club 4 times a week, using the gym, pool & spa as well as the club bar and restaurant. Twice a week she has personal training sessions, which have helped to keep her motivated.
“I’m now in a good routine with my fitness plan and seeing results physically, emotionally and mentally. The equipment in the gym is great, and all the staff are so lovely and helpful and keep me motivated.”
Sunita recommends a family membership to anyone looking to improve their general fitness, keep the children entertained and do more things together as a family. “It’s 100% made us so much more active. The boys look forward to swimming and their activities – they call the club their second home!”
My route to wellness by Jose
Working from home wellness
For me, you can’t beat the flexibility of being able to work out in the gym, then go for a swim or visit the sauna – in my opinion it’s priceless. It’s one of the things I really appreciate about the club. It’s not something you find everywhere.
Jose's story
For Jose, a personalised programme in the gym was just what he needed to make positive changes to his daily lifestyle.
With a desk job, the father of two was used to spending a lot of time sitting down. But when lockdown hit and he found himself furloughed, he ended up stuck at home not moving much.
He decided he needed to take action and become more active to improve his health. When the most recent lockdown ended, he took the plunge and joined the club along with his wife and 2 children.
With oedema leaving him with swollen feet, his main goal was simply to become more active and build regular exercise into his routine – losing a bit of weight was a bonus.
“If I went for a walk, after a couple of metres I’d find myself experiencing back pain – I just couldn’t do it. One of my goals was just being able to walk 5km – and I can do it now!”
As a first-time gym goer in the UK, Jose worked with one of the Wellness Coaches who developed a personalised 6-week programme for him.
New to the gym, Jose found the exercises a bit daunting at first, but the Wellness team was fantastic, gradually reviewing the routine and increasing the intensity as they progressed through the programme.
The first few daily visits to the gym were tough. But around a week and a half later, things started to feel easier. “That’s when we reviewed (the programme) and decided to increase the weights and intensity. The team is fantastic in terms of support - always checking if I want to change anything and if I feel ok - I couldn’t ask for more.”
Jose’s personalised programme mixes weights with some cardio exercises such as cycling or walking, but he prefers cycling.
Although losing around 10kg was a great benefit, the biggest improvement Jose saw was to his overall health. He’s just embarked on his second programme, with the goal of losing a bit more weight and maintaining his current levels of activity, gong to the gym at least twice a week. “I could see the benefits on a day-to-day basis. For a start, not having swollen feet is great! But just being able to move more and feel better is awesome.”
After an hour in the gym, he likes to visit the wet spa and spend some time in the sauna. “For me, you can’t beat the flexibility of being able to work out in the gym, then go for a swim or visit the sauna – in my opinion it’s priceless. It’s one of the things I really appreciate about the club. It’s not something you find everywhere.”
His children do golf lessons at the club, and they enjoy going to the pool together as a family and enjoying a meal afterwards. The creche facilities also allows Jose and his wife the freedom to head to the gym or the spa knowing the children are safe and entertained. During the summer holidays they’ve been enjoying Crafty Club, as well as activities on the weekend such as dance lessons and kickboxing.
He recommends a health membership to others, and recently contacted his employer about possible staff memberships. “I would say to anyone thinking of joining that it’s a beautiful facility, but it’s also about a complete lifestyle package. It doesn’t feel the same in other places- the support is great here.”
